Combined Community Services is joining with county agencies and churches to provide utility assistance to families who are unable to get to Warsaw.

"The reality is that many people are unable to travel this far due to transportation issues, job losses and the greater need in Kosciusko County," said Peggi Lisenbee-Wright, CCS client services director."The colder weather is here and we are able to assist more people with NIPSCO through the Winter Warmth program and the upcoming Gift of Warmth program," Lisenbee-Wright said.

Lisenbee-Wright travels to Syracuse Food Pantry the first Tuesday of each month. Sheila Aden, Syracuse Food Pantry director, provides office space and schedules appointments for the programs.

People who live in Turkey Creek Township and have a disconnect notice should call the food pantry at 574-457-5450 to schedule an appointment.

Appointments also may be made in person by going into the Syracuse Food Pantry. Hours are Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Silver Lake Wesleyan Church provides a meeting space and telephone for Lisenbee-Wright on the first Thursday of each month.

Appointments for those living in Lake Township are scheduled through LaLanya Bruner at CCS, 574-269-6019, Ext. 30, or through Pastor Jonathon Light at 260-352-2040.

"Winter Warmth and Gift of Warmth have guidelines and most time people need to have a percentage of their bill paid or different deposits and charges taken care of," Lisenbee-Wright said.
