Were you late to the cross country sectional that the WCHS teams attended on Tuesday?
After reading the article in the Times-Union on Wednesday, it appears you missed the boys' race. Why is it that you continually write about the success of the girls team and disregard the boys team, which has accomplished the same success?
The girls team came in second place at the sectional and there was a half-page article written about them. However, the boys team also came in second place and there were only 4-1/2 short paragraphs written about them. The boys team has done very well against state-ranked team. However, there has been little press coverage. All we hear about is the girl's team, which is unfair to the hardworking boys team.
The boys team and their parents get disappointed every time they check the results in the Times-Union because they are hardly mentioned, even though they do just as well as the girls team. The sports writer tends to single out a certain athlete on the girls team most of the time and hardly mentions anyone else. The boys team is on of the best cross country teams at WCHS in the last 18 years. Where is the recognition from the press? Maybe they will get it from the sports writer from Terre Haute at the state meet.
Thank you.
P.S. A new picture of some of the other cross country athletes on both sides would be nice.

Editor's Note: The thrust of the story the writer references was the Warsaw girls because they tied with Northridge, finishing second only on a tiebreaker. Northridge has won 19 consecutive girls cross country sectionals. Warsaw has won one girls cross country secitonal in school history (1985). The photos we ran were the top finishers from area schools in both boys and girls competition - Warsaw freshman Ashley Erba, who won; and Wawasee senior Jose Mejia, who finished fourth. Complete meet results and quotes from Warsaw's boys and girls coaches were included.
