Caution Urged As Athletes Take To StreetsWINONA LAKE – Upward of 600 people will participate Saturday in the 25th annual Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club Triathlon in Winona Lake.
Much of the activity will be at the park beach in Winona Lake, but motorists are warned that hundreds of bicycle riders will be on Pierceton Road, from Winona Lake to Pierceton, between the hours of 8 to 11 a.m., and are urged to avoid the road.
Other routes will be affected.
Here is information provided by Winona Lake Police Department:
• Pierceton Road/Packerton Road closed to all traffic: The suggested alternate route is Packerton Road to CR 225S, west to Country Club Road.
• Pierceton Road/CR 250E closed to all traffic: Alternate route to Packerton Road is Wooster Road to Kings Highway, west to Winona Avenue to Smith Street, south on Country Club to CR 225S, east back to Packerton Road.
• Kings Highway/Wooster Road: No through traffic to Pierceton Road.
Police also suggest that motorists who come up upon the race should maintain their lane of travel and do not attempt to overtake or pass any of the racers. Instead, look for the next possible exit.
