A caucus will have to be called in Turkey Creek Township to choose someone to finish out Ray Darr's term until Jan. 1.
Darr, 70, the Turkey Creek Township trustee, died Tuesday night of natural causes in his home. He served the township for 15 years.
Darr was the only candidate who filed to run for the trustee position in the primary election.
Wednesday afternoon, Republican Party Chairman Mike Gavin said the date and time of the caucus have not yet been determined.
Gavin will have to appoint someone to be on the ballot for the trustee position but is checking with the state whether someone can be appointed for the primary election or if he must wait until the general election in November.
It is possible, he said, that the person the caucus chooses to finish out Darr's term and the person Gavin appoints to run for trustee in the election may be the same person.
As well as being the trustee, Darr was a farmer and had been a school bus driver for Wawasee Community School Corp. He also was a former 4-H leader and was a U.S. Army veteran.
