A Republican caucus has been set to fill the State Senate District 13 seat vacated by 3rd District Congressman-elect Marlin Stutzman.

The caucus will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Four-County Area Vocational Cooperative Dowling Street campus, 1607 E. Dowling St., Kendallville.

There are 68 potential voters in the caucus to replace Stutzman, with the following precinct committee member breakdown: 29 from Noble County, 16 from LaGrange County, 12 from Steuben County, 10 from Kosciusko County and one from DeKalb County.

State Republican Party officials were notified of Stutzman's resignation Nov. 8. A caucus must be called by the party within 30 days of the resignation being received.

Stutzman will be sworn in Tuesday to fill the remainder of former U.S. Congressman Mark Souder's term in the 3rd Congressional seat. Stutzman will then begin a two-year term on Jan. 1.

Souder resigned in May after admitting to an extra-marital affair with a part-time staffer.

Candidates who have expressed interest in the State Senate seat are Kendallville city councilman Regan Ford, LaGrange businessman Angelo Petitti, former LaGrange county councilman official Harold Gingerich, former LaGrange County Prosecutor Susan Glick, Rome City Town Council president Dave Abbott, Denny Zent from Steuben County, and outgoing Noble County Sheriff Gary Leatherman.
