The Kosciusko County Republican Party will hold a caucus to elect a new sheriff at 7 p.m. June 21 in the courtroom of the old county courthouse, 100 W. Center St., Warsaw.

There are 69 Republican Precinct men and women eligible to vote in the caucus, according to GOP Chairman Mike Ragan. They must have been in position for 30 continuous days before the caucus.

The sheriff candidates must be Republicans “in good standing” and will be elected by secret ballot and must receive the majority votes from the voting caucus. Candidates will be allowed three minutes to address the caucus.

Ragan said Kosciusko?County Sheriff’s Department Det. Josh Spangle and Indiana State Trooper Kyle Dukes, Milford, are two of the people who have told him that they are running. Spangle and Dukes have not submitted the paperwork to run as of this morning.

“I’ve heard there will be several candidates,” Ragan said. He said at least five people have expressed interest to him.

Spangle declined to comment when asked by the Times-Union  this morning if he was seeking the position.

Dukes did not return a phone call seeking comment as of press time this morning.

Declarations of Candidacy are available at the office of Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, and must be filed with Ragan at 1458 E. 75 N, Warsaw, IN 46582, no later than 72 hours prior to the commencement of the caucus. Ragan also may be contacted at 574-265-1430 or mragan@sprintmail. com.

Members of the caucus, candidates, designated caucus staff, Republican Party officials, duly appointed watchers and members of the news media are eligible to attend the caucus.
