A caucus will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Munson Building, 216 N. Lake St., Warsaw, to appoint a new Kosciusko county assessor.
County assessor Sharon R. Thompson, 55, a Republican, died July 24 in Kosciusko Community Hospital.
Declarations of candidacy must be filed with Republican Party chairman Michael Gavin at 85 S. Hunters Ridge, Warsaw, and must be postmarked at least 72 hours prior to convening the caucus (Saturday).
Forms are available from the county clerk's office, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw. Candidates must be Republicans.
Gavin said experience is not necessarily needed and "it's an elected position by the precinct committee people." However, experience does help, he said.
Each candidate at the caucus will be given three minutes to talk and the public can attend. The actual vote is not open to the public.
As of today, Gavin confirmed there are three candidates - Laurie Renier, Darby Davis and Marsha McSherry. But forms will still be taken until Saturday and interested people should not hesitate to apply, Gavin said.
