Caucus Filing Ends; Mentone Candidates Needed

Deadlines for filing for caucuses in Warsaw and Silver Lake have ended, but the filing period continues for Mentone.

Five people have filed for the Warsaw City Council District 5 seat that will be vacated by Dan Hampton Dec. 31. Hampton was elected prosecuting attorney in the Nov. 2 election, and his duties begin Jan. 1.

Filing for the council seat ended Sunday night.

Candidates for the city council seat are Bruce Woodward, Carl Sowers, Diane Quance, Sean Boylan and Troy Turley.

A caucus for the District 5 seat is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at city hall. Precinct committee members Warren Tatter, Josh Spangle, Christy Polk and Jeremiah Heierman will select the person to fill the seat.

Each candidate will have three minutes to speak, and then the vote will take place.

Woodward is president of Woodward Realty, a 1990 graduate of Kosciusko Leadership Academy and Warsaw Citizen's Police Academy.

Woodward is currently serving his 14th year on Warsaw Board of Zoning Appeals. He also currently serves on the Kosciusko County Redevelopment Commission.

Sowers is employed at Azko Nobel. He worked with the Cub Scouts at Lincoln Elementary for 10 years, and served seven years as Cub master.

He also was instrumental in obtaining funds for Fribley Field on East Market Street, is currently on the City-County Athletic Complex board and has helped raise funds for the marquee for the complex.

Quance is a guidance counselor at Warsaw Community High School. She also is a Tri-Kappa member, and current vice president of Pike Lake Conservation Association.

Boylan has served on Warsaw Board of Zoning Appeals since June, and serves as president of Square Tech Communications Inc., a consulting firm responsible for developing, zoning and constructing cellular towers.

Turley is Center Lake Conservation Association president, and is a Kosciusko County YMCA board member.

For the Silver Lake Town Council seat, three people have filed. Candidates include Gary Kneller, Stanley Williams and Chad Miner.

Filing ended Saturday, and the caucus to replace Ron Jones, who resigned, is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Silver Lake Town Hall.

A caucus has been scheduled for Mentone to fill the seat that has been vacated by board member Jack Simpson, who resigned.

The caucus in Mentone is Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. at the town hall. As of today, no one has filed for the Mentone seat.

The deadline to file for the Mentone council seat is Dec. 31 at 6 p.m.
