Carts For EducationSycamore Golf Club and the Whitko Welding Technology class teamed up to provide students with a unique problem-based learning experience. PGA professional and Sycamore Golf Club owner Todd Sandow in North Manchester had the need for multiple golf cart frames to be repaired and welded. That is when golf cart maintenance engineer Gary Schrader reached out to the Whitko Welding Technology Department at the Whitko Career Academy. The department accepted the job as a meaningful way for students to problem solve and apply their previously learned Tungsten Inert Gas Welding skills to a real world problem. Students Dakota Akers and Kaiden Barnhart led and completed the project putting their aluminum TIG welding skills to good use. The frames were repaired and reinforced with multiple gussets to ensure years of safe service. Pictured are Gary Schrader, Todd Sandow, Dakota Acres, Kaiden Barnhart and Jay Ocken.
