Carter's Three-Run Blast Lifts Manchester, 7-5

Posted
SOUTH WHITLEY – Manchester junior Cierra Carter hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Lady Squires a 7-5 win over Whitko in a see-saw Three Rivers Conference softball game Wednesday.
The game was moved from Manchester’s field to the Whitko campus due to wet grounds, but the Lady Squires remained the “home” team.
The Lady Squires led 2-1 until the top of the fifth, when Whitko cranked up the softball teeter-totter by scoring twice. Manchester answered with two in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead, only to see Whitko add two more runs in its half of the seventh, setting up Carter’s heroics.
Mattie McKee was the winning pitcher, going seven innings and allowing two earned runs, striking out five.
Emma West had two hits and scored twice for Manchester. Carter had a single in addition to her home run, and Ellie Milam had an RBI single.
For Whitko, Ellie Snep took the tough-luck loss in the circle; she allowed five hits and struck out four.
Snep had a home run, Hanna Yohe had a double, Anna Ousley had a single, Emalee Duggins had a single and a triple, and Reannon Hopkins had a pair of singles.
Whitko is back in action at home today against Fort Wayne Wayne.
