Carson's Wrapping Up Pacesetter Campaign

With a new store name, Carson's, formerly Elder-Beerman, is still the same company that supports United Way every year.

This year, Carson's is one of the Pacesetter companies for Kosciusko County United Way.

Pacesetter companies are charged with the responsibility of kickstarting the United Way's campaign to raise money that helps fund all the projects and programs.

"The big thing we do is our internal campaign," said Carson's general manager Steve Blair. "We've raised more than $6,600 just from our associates."

The Warsaw Carson's employs about 80 associates and the participation rate is around 95 percent.

Blair said Carson's is a big supporter of the United Way and that when an employee contributes at least 8/10 of a percent of their paycheck they earn a vacation day.

Carson's also sold United Way T-shirt hang tags to customers. Blair said the biggest success of the campaign with customers was how it helped build awareness for the campaign.

The Warsaw location is looking to stay toward the top of other Carson's stores.

Last year, the Warsaw Carson's campaign was second out of 275 stores in raising funds for United Way when comparing percent of total payroll.

"Carson's really supports it," said Blair. "People here have gotten really involved with it. We've built a culture of involvement in supporting United Way."
