Carson Sentenced To A Treatment Program For Possession Of Child PornographyA man who called police to report his computer was hacked was convicted of possession of child pornography Monday and sentenced to a treatment program.
Christopher Michael Carson, 32, of 2441 W. CR 250S, lot 95, Warsaw, appeared Monday in front of Kosciusko Superior Court I Special Judge Karen Springer and was sentenced to one year of formal probation for a Level 6 felony possession of child pornography conviction. A Class B misdemeanor false informing charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Carson also was ordered to complete a treatment program through Rescue Mission in Fort Wayne, surrender his computer or have his computer reset to factory settings with all prior data wiped and register as a sex offender.
The case stems from the evening of Aug. 26 when Carson called Warsaw police and said his computer was hacked and whoever hacked it was using his Skype account to talk to a 15-year-old girl in Minnesota.
Carson complained to police that he was being called a pedophile and he wanted to know what his options were.
Police showed up to Carson’s Clinic Court address at the time and Carson was waiting on the porch for them and said he was stressed out and went to get his computer.
However, when police searched Carson’s computer, his laptop and his cell phone, investigators determined Carson was having conversations with several girls under the age of 18 over a period of time, receiving nude videos and had a folder full of Hentai porn that had images of children under the age of 18 in sexual positions and in a state of nudity, according to the affidavit.
When police called Carson down to the station for an interview, Carson eventually admitted he met the 15-year-old in a chat room but said he never asked her for images. He also denied viewing the videos, but then stated he went from his phone to his laptop because he was unable to view the videos on his phone, according to court papers.
As for the underage Hentai porn, Carson blamed that on his wife.
In court Monday, Carson’s public defender, Jay Rigdon, said his client has no prior criminal history, had steady employment and called this incident a one-off that does not make up Carson’s life or who Carson is as a person. Rigdon said Carson has mental and emotional problems he needs to deal with, and said the program in Fort Wayne is a positive sign he’s ready to deal with it.
“Sir, I hope this was an aberration,” Springer told him. “This is conduct that will affect your life. It’s going to require you to register as a sex offender ... stay 1,000 feet away from a school. ... I hope you understand this is a very serious offense. You can’t repeat it.”
