Cars & Unions

Editor, Times-Union:

I am losing money and no one is bailing me out. Let them use Chapter 11 and restructure and get rid of the CEOs that let this happen.

When gas went to $1 per gallon I started looking at cars that would get more miles per gallon. Purchased a 210 Datsun (Nissan), drove same or more miles per year but doubled my gas mileage, which meant I was paying only 50 cents per gallon. This was the beginning of the end for American-built gas hogs. Japanese Datsun gave me 100,000 miles with no repairs, it ran like a dream.

In 1998, GMC had the perfect commuter car, the GEO Series that got more than 40 miles to the gallon. Where did they go? They ran good and did not have a lot of repairs and GMC did not make 50 percent profit, and why isn't GMC making the GEO today?

I am tired of being a sugar daddy to the UAW. Twenty-five years ago I listened to auto workers spending the summer at the lake on lay-off company pay laughing about their extended vacations. I thought, yes, at my expense. If they are laid off, let them go on relief. Where are the new oil wells and stop bailing out these credit card companies.

Thank you.
