ALEXANDRIA – Carrollee Allen, 83, Syracuse, and formerly of Alexandria and Marathon, Fla., passed away Nov. 17 at Goshen Hospital. She was born Oct. 22, 1930, in Anderson, to Raymond and Hazel Starr. On March 12, 1950, she married Rolland H. “Bud” Allen Jr., who preceded her in death. She attended Purdue University and Ball State University. She taught elementary school in Elwood. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Alexandria and later in the St. Andrews Methodist Church, Syracuse. Most recently she taught Sunday School and was the leader of the Women’s Bible Study. Her love of teaching led her to spend several years working with the students in Wawasee’s Alternative Education Program. She was an avid reader, and played bridge several times a week. Surviving are a son, Timothy (and spouse Janet) Allen, Alexandria and New Port Richey, Fla.; two daughters, Sharon (and spouse Timothy) Sigler and Jennifer (and spouse Kenneth) Miller, both of Syracuse; six grandchildren: Brandon Allen, Eaton, Ohio; Alicia Allen, Los Angeles, Calif.; Kristen Firestone, Leesburg; Chasity Walker, West Burlington, Iowa; Jason Sigler and Amber Hollingsworth, both of Syracuse; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Starr, Fishers; and a sister-in-law, Norma Reed, Alexandria. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Starr; and a son, Gary Allen. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Beedle officiating. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Andrews Methodist Church in Syracuse at 2 p.m. Saturday.
