Carriage rides and Christmas lights will brighten up Central Park in Warsaw beginning today.

Carriage rides also will be Dec. 12 and 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Central Park.Carriage ride tickets are $5 per person, and children 2 and younger ride for free. Tickets can be purchased at the concession stand at the Indiana Street parking lot. Tickets need to be purchased at Center Lake Pavilion for the Dec. 12 carriage rides.

Warsaw Parks Department employees have been working since Nov. 3 putting this year's light display together in Central Park, according to park director Larry Plummer.

"The lights and carriage rides provide a great opportunity for the family to come enjoy a Christmas atmosphere," Plummer said.

The lights will be on display beginning today from 5 to 10 p.m. every night except Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve until Jan. 1.

New to this year's display is a 12-1/2-foot light-emitting-diode Christmas Tree with lights purchased by donations from Biomet Inc.

The tree was put up last week.

Plummer also said, new to this year's display, is LED lighting and four new wreaths purchased from funds raised during last year's concession sales.

People also can enjoy the annual light displays of Santa, elves, skaters, reindeer and a manger scene.

"There are approximately 130,000 lights in Central Park, which is close to what we had last year," Plummer said.

The annual concession stand will be in Central Park, run by Young Tigers Football. Visitors to the park will be able to purchase hot chocolate, coffee and popcorn.

Proceeds raised from the concession sales go to purchase light displays for next year.
