AKRON – Carolyn R. Shelpman, 71, of 314 N. Maple St., Akron, died at 9:15 a.m. March 9, 2012, in her residence.
She was born July 16, 1940, in Cass County, to Harrison and Ruth L. DePoy DeWitt. On Dec. 24, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nev., she married Richard E. Shelpman, who survives.
She was a professional babysitter as well as a homemaker. She also looked after the elderly in her later years.
Also surviving are a son, Wesley Shelpman, Akron; four grandchildren: Wesley II, Alexis, Maverick and Aleesya Shelpman; a sister, Agnes (and spouse Herbert “Bud”) Forgery, Logansport; a brother, Eugene (and spouse Willadean) DeWitt, California; two sisters-in-law, Patricia (and spouse Bill) Vaugen, Burlington, Ohio, and Margaret DeWitt, Kewanna; and a brother-in-law, Milo Shriver, Akron. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Saraetta Shriver; and three brothers, Dallas, Jerry and Bill DeWitt.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Burial will be in Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
