Carolyn J. KessieCOLUMBIA CITY – Carolyn J. Kessie, 74, of Columbia City, passed away at 5:35 p.m. June 4, 2011, in her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Nov. 11, 1936, in Whitley County, to Paul C. and Violet M. Dolly Boggs. On June 9, 1957, at Troy Presbyterian Church, Whitley County, she married Dick D. Kessie, who survives.
A lifetime resident of Whitley County, she attended Thorncreek School and graduated from Larwill High School in 1954. She worked at NIPSCO from 1954-78, 5C’s Nursing Home, Dr. Vogel’s office and for Dr. Bryan Wait as an office assistant from 1989 to 2006. She also co-owned D&C Crafts and Woodworking. She was a member of Troy Presbyterian Church, where she was the organist and pianist for many years. She was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church, Columbia City-Order of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile, Shrine Lady and Whitley County Shrine Club.
Also surviving are two daughters, Cerese (and spouse Jim) R. Brock and Terri (and spouse Chris) A. Clupper, all of Columbia City; two sons, Dennis (and spouse Aimee) P. Kessie, Braidwood, Ill., and Doug (and spouse Tina) D. Kessie, South Whitley; a brother, Paul “Butch” (and spouse Louisa) C. Boggs, Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Emily and Abbey Brock, Justin and Tyler Clupper, Alexandra, Mason and Wyatt Kessie, Kayla and Joshua and Cole Kessie; and a great-grandson, Aiden Linn. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
