Carolyn Ann TildenAKRON – Carolyn Ann Tilden, of Akron, passed away lovingly surrounded by family at her home on Friday, Dec. 5, 2020.

Carolyn was born in North Manchester on Aug. 5, 1935, to John Robert and Tressa Pearl Metzger Helvey.  On Aug. 11, 1951, she was joined in marriage to Richard Dwight Tilden in Akron.

Survivors include her husband and children, Mike (Pam) Tilden, Akron; Jeff (Nancy) Tilden, Akron; Scott (Cindy) Tilden, Akron; Lori (DeLynn) Tilden-Geiger, Warsaw; Tricia (Michael) Griggs, Hartsville, S.C.; and a sister, Doris Hunter, W.Va.

Carolyn is also survived by her grandchildren, Cassandra Eherenman, David Tilden, Stephanie Tilden, Ryan Tilden, Wendy Tilden, Hillary Tilden, Mallory Deardorff-Dawson, Alex Deardorff, Graham Hoyle, Shane Potter and Blane Potter, along with their spouses, nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

Preceding Carolyn in death were her parents and siblings, Vivian Lewis, Lamoine Helvey, Zelma Schlemmer, Robert Helvey, Richard Helvey and Ardith Smythe.

Carolyn’s life and legacy will be celebrated in a private family service at the home of her daughter on Tuesday, Dec. 8 with Pastors Kathy Nelson and Mandy Nellans of the Akron Church of God and David Eaton, Akron United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside service will take place immediately following at the Akron Cemetery.

Hartzler Funeral Home of Akron is in charge of the arrangements.

Carolyn Ann Tilden could be found many days enjoying her front porch swing. She babysat and cared for over 200 children in Akron for over 30 years. With her compassion to make sure all children in the community were sheltered, warm and fed, her family requests in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her loving memory to the “Viking Vittles” backpack program for Tippecanoe Valley students who may be food insecure.
