BOURBON – Carole M. Koontz, 77, of Tippecanoe, passed away at  8:05 a.m. April 1, 2012, in her residence, in the care of her family. She was in failing health.

She was born Nov. 4, 1934, at home in Bremen, to Minna and Dillman Manges. On June 20, 1952, she married Gerald F. Koontz, who died July 31, 2008.

A lifetime area resident, she was a 1952 graduate of Bremen High School. She was a homemaker and a secretary at Koontz and King Excavating and River Ridge Inc. She was a faithful member of Bourbon First United Methodist Church, Homemakers Club and Bourbon Red Hats group. She very much enjoyed her friends and coffee shop women’s group.

Surviving are five children: Michael Lee Koontz and Ann Marie Harrell, both of Bourbon; James Ray Koontz, Tippecanoe; Julie Kay Shaw, Lafayette; and Lisa Carole Drubert, Etna Green; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Leona Holdread,   South Bend; and four brothers: Wayne, Burton, Evan and Donald Manges, all of Bremen. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ellen Lorraine Leazenby; and a brother, Dean Manges.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bourbon First United Methodist Church, 204 N. Washington St., with the Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, and for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
