AKRON – Carol J. Meeks, 67, of  309 N. Mill St., North Manchester, died at 9:15 a.m. May 19, 2012, in her residence.

She was born July 14, 1944, in Lima, Ohio, to Richard and Wava Worthington Ludwig. On April 11, 1965, in Lima, she married P. Neil Meeks, who survives.

She lived more than 40 years in North Manchester,  coming from Lima. She graduated from Lima High School in 1962, Manchester College in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree and earned a master’s degree from Indiana University in 1976. She was an elementary school teacher in Ottoville, Ohio, and Manchester Community  Schools, North Manchester, and retired in 2007 after 38 years of teaching. She was a member of North Manchester Order of the Eastern Star 69, where she served as worthy matron. She was the district deputy of District 18 from 1985-86 in the Indiana Grand Chapter OES. She was a member of Retired School Teachers Association and Bachelor Creek Church of Christ, Wabash, and was a Sunday and Bible school teacher.

Also surviving are four children: Eric L. (and spouse Susan) Meeks, Cincinnati, Ohio; Richard P. Meeks, Lakewood, Wash.; Stephanie (and spouse Bill) Schlegel, Israel; and Jonathan (and spouse Heather) Meeks, Chicago, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Bruce (and spouse Fran) Ludwig, Juneau, Alaska; and a sister,  Nancy Crew, Florida, Ohio.

A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. today at Bachelor Creek Church of Christ, Wabash, with the Rev. Solomon David officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the church.
