Carol E. Carpenter, 73, of Warsaw, Indiana, passed away on December 2, 2021, at Life’s Journey of Avon Hospice after a courageous 11-year battle with lung cancer. She was born on November 3, 1948, in Richmond, Indiana, to Mary Louise Fleming Haid and Lionel J. Haid.
She graduated from Richmond High School in 1966, where she was a member of the Devilettes, Student Council, Y-Teens and 4-H. Carol went on to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, earning her associates degree in 1968.
Carol begrudgingly accepted a dinner date with Noble Carpenter at a Jaycees convention when a mutual friend gave Noble her dinner ticket and declared if she wanted to eat, she would have to find him. Six months later, on December 29, 1974, the pair wed and moved to Warsaw, Indiana, where she worked for DePuy for almost 37 years, retiring in 2011.
Carol was an avid golfer, enjoying many ladies and couples leagues, achieving a hole-in-one and Stonehenge women’s player of the year throughout her golf career. She enjoyed volunteering with Tri-Kappa, serving on the United Way Board, and ushering at the Wagon Wheel Theater over the years. She spent hours sewing costumes for Halloween, dance recitals and school plays. Many more hours watching dance recitals, school plays, choir concerts, cheerleading, football, volleyball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, basketball, golf and track meets in any weather to cheer on her children and grandchildren.
Carol enjoyed many wonderful travels with her husband and friends to Europe, the UK, Antigua, Rhode Island and the Caribbean; family ski vacations and trips to Disney. She especially loved reconnecting with her high school girlfriends and taking several road trips with her “Yayas.”
