AKRON — Carl Whitworth Jr., 79, Akron, and formerly of Merrillville, died at 12:25 a.m. Dec. 10, 2016, at his residence. He was born July 4, 1937, in Clinton, to Carl and Bertha Faitak Whitworth. On March 16, 1958, in Clinton, he married Jean Ann Moore, who preceded Nov. 2, 2009. He worked for Inland Steel in East Chicago for many years. He was a graduate of Clinton High School. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved the Cubs and enjoyed watching them win the World Series. Survivors include a son, Carl Whitworth III (wife Lynn A.), Merrillville; two grandsons, Carl Whitworth IV (wife Melissa), Galveston, and Jeremy (wife Nicole Whitworth), Akron; a granddaughter, Cassandra (husband Nigel) Whitworth-Rowe, Walton; a daughter-in-law, Sandra (husband Dale) Whitworth-Miller, Peru; 12 great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Hailey, Taylor, Chase, Corynn, Jaxson, Kaiya, Alexis, Carter, Addison, Kamila and Owen; a brother, Donald (wife Sue) Whitworth, Crown Point; and two nieces, Suzanne and Sherry. He was preceded by his parents, Carl and Bertha Whitworth; his wife, Jean Ann Whitworth; a son, Scott A. Whitworth Sr.; and a grandson, Scott A. Whitworth Jr. The funeral was at 11 a.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor David Eaton officiating.
