We were beginning to have concerns over the care packages we ship to our troops as our major shipping sponsor has had to cut back on their donations due to the decrease in the economy. It seems every time we begin to have a concern about something to do with the care packages, our community comes through.
This week we received a donation from the United Steel Workers of America Local 6805. Their donation will help us send 11 care packages to 11 deployed troop members with local ties. The only way we know to show our gratitude is to write this letter so the community knows the good these union members are doing. Our community is doing good things, too. Community members and businesses continue to bring in items and names for our care packages. In the last two weeks we have received two more names of local men that are again being deployed. We would like to say thank you to those that donate items, phone cards, and monies to help with the shipping costs. We also would like to thank those family members and friends that forward addresses to us.
We will continue our care package program as long as we have troops that are deployed. We feel it is extremely important that members of our military never feel their community, or their country, doesn't appreciate them. They must know how much we care, and that we have not forgotten what they do for all of us. There is nothing we can do that would be enough to show how much we appreciate them for who they are and what they do as they courageously stand up for the rights of each and every citizen and for our country. They should be honored for the heroes they are.
As our economy becomes tighter, we all must prioritize, but even a couple dollars here and there adds up and helps tremendously. Please keep in mind that without our community members we would not be able to continue supporting our troops with the care package program. For those community members that continue to help out, "thank you" does not begin to convey our appreciation for helping us keep this program going.
We will be holding our third annual car show July 26 at the DePuy parking lot from 1 to 6 p.m. As in our last two years, all proceeds go toward care package requests and shipping costs. This year we are adding motorcycles also. For details, or if your company or you would like to donate toward door prizes, please contact Rhonda at 574-269-4545. We have a Web site in progress that our community is more than welcome to check out. It is www.supportourtroopscarshow.webs.com
Again, thank you to the members of the United Steel Workers of America Local 6805 and our community members for your assistance in our care package program. Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated.
