Cardinal Center Kicks Off Hole-In-One Fund-Raiser

Posted

Once again, it's time for golfers to take a swing at a chance for a share in $1 million.

The Sixth Annual Cardinal Center Million Dollar Hole-In-One Golf Shoot Out kicks off July 9 at Raccoon Run with the Sponsor/Media Day festivities. Each media representative and sponsor representative will have the opportunity to drive the links to be the golfer closest to the qualifying hole. Both the first-place media and sponsor representatives will join 25 qualifiers from the July 10-11 weekend and proceed to the finals at Stonehenge Golf Club July 25 to hit at a $1 million hole, 125 yards from the tee.

Anyone and everyone is invited to participate on July 10-11. Talented golfer? Like to be involved in competitive sports? Or just want a chance to change your life? For $1 per ball, anyone can join in the Shoot Out with R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. as the premier sponsor. The $1 buys one swing at the ball at a hole 90 yards away from the tee on the driving range at five Kosciusko and Marshall county golf courses.

Hundreds will try to qualify at Little Bighorn, Pierceton; Raccoon Run, Warsaw; South Shore, Syracuse; Sprig-O-Mint, Bremen; or Swan Lake, Plymouth, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

The event is open to the public.

The five people whose golf balls land closest to the pin at each location will win qualification prizes and move on to the June 30 final competition.

The final competition requires a longer drive of 125 yards to the pin, but there a hole-in-one pays a 50-50 split of $1 million with the Cardinal Center, paid over 30 years. Other prizes will be available for the top 10 finalists July 25.

The Shoot Out benefits Cardinal Center Inc., a not-for-profit organization that provides services to help people with disabilities in Kosciusko, Carroll, Cass, Fulton, Marshall and surrounding counties.

Cardinal Center services include Working in the Community; First Steps; Head Start; Early Head Start; Women, Infants & Children; Healthy Families; Community Living; and Sus Amigos.

R.R. Donnelley is the premier sponsor at $5,000, and Donnelley employees volunteer time to help with the event.

Sponsors committed to the event include The Biomet Foundation, Lake City Bank, Creative Benefit Solutions, Crowe Chizek, Medtronic Sofamor Danek, NIPSCO, Paragon Medical, Pill Box Pharmacies, Rice Ford-Mercury-Lincoln, Zimmer Inc., Chore Time-Brock, Todd and Jan Dawson, 1st Source Bank, Flexsteel Industries, Great Lakes Capital Fund, National City Bank, Symmetry Medical Inc. and IKON Office Solutions.

The event requires more than 100 volunteers, of which Donnelley provides half.

Assistance still is needed for the Shoot Out in monetary sponsorships as well as food and other supply donations. Volunteers also are needed to help with registration of people wanting to take qualification shots for the $1 million, measuring distances at the qualifying hole or other related jobs.
