The second annual Cardinal Center Duck Race is Saturday at 10 a.m. on the east side of Center Lake in Warsaw's Bixler Park.
The first duck across the finish line wins $5,000. Cardinal Center Inc. keeps $1,570 in accordance with state and federal tax laws; the winner retains $3,430.
Each little ducky has a number stamped on its bottom. The numbers are assigned to the purchasers or duck adopter. Ducks are $5 for a single adoption, $25 for six; $50 for a "quackers dozen," and $100 for a "flock" or 24 ducks.
In addition to the grand prize, other prizes are a Ramada/Wagon Wheel Theatre Package, an overnight stay at the Ramada Plaza and theater tickets; a $250 gift certificate to JB's Furniture; A Day of Beauty at Today's Headlines; and $250 in Pizza Hut coupons.
Saturday's event starts at 9:30 a.m. Ducks will be sold until 9:55 a.m. The duck race begins at 10 a.m.
All proceeds from the duck race support Cardinal Center programs. Founded in 1954 to serve the needs of people with disabilities, the organization has 14 programs that help more than 3,000 people each year.
Programs include residential, work and day services for people with disabilities, as well as children's services like Head Start, WIC and Healthy Families.
