Cardinal Center Ducks Race Scheduled

Posted
The third annual Cardinal Center Duck Race is Saturday at noon on the east side of Center Lake in Warsaw's Bixler Park.

All proceeds from the duck race support Cardinal Center programs.

Festivities will begin at 11 a.m., with the "Duck Drop" scheduled at noon.

The first rubber ducks to cross the finish line wins $5,000. Cardinal Center Inc. keeps $1,570 in accordance with state and federal tax laws; the winner retains $3,430.

Each rubber duck has a number stamped on its bottom. The numbers are assigned to the purchasers or duck adopter.

Ducks are $5 for a single adoption, $25 for six; $50 for a "quacker's dozen," and $100 for a flock of 24 ducks.

In addition to the grand prize, other prizes are four Notre Dame Football tickets to the Nov. 10 Notre Dame vs. Air Force Game; an overnight stay at the Ramada Plaza and theater tickets; and a gas grill from Lowe's.

Cardinal Center has numerous programs to help adults with disabilities in daily living, employment and residential needs like staffed group homes and apartments. These programs are provided throughout Kosciusko, Marshall, Fulton and Cass counties.

Children and family programs, such as Head Start, Healthy Families and WIC, are offered in Kosciusko County.

"We do a lot of good things, but we need a lot of help to do it and that's why the Duck Race is so important," said Jane Greene, Cardinal Center CEO.

Greene said the race is about the people who the center serves.

"We need to be able to sustain a high level of support for the 3,000 families and individuals we work with," Greene said.

She said the duck race is a way for participants to assist raising funds while having fun.

Ducks are still available by calling Cardinal Center at 574-267-3823.

They also will be available for purchase during Friday night's country music concert in Central Park and at the race.
