Car-Train Collision Stalls Traffic

Posted
One driver whose vehicle was hit by a train in downtown Warsaw Thursday afternoon walked away uninjured, causing fellow drivers to reroute for more than two hours as the crash was investigated.

Warsaw Police Department officers responded to a car vs. train accident at Main and Hickory streets at 2:06 p.m. Thursday.

A 2005 silver Chevrolet Equinox was traveling westbound on Main Street, and the driver, Jon A. Siesennop, 68, Warsaw, failed to yield to the red flashing lights. Siesennop told police he tried to back up off of the tracks, but it was too late, and the front end of his SUV was struck by a southbound Norfolk Southern train.

When officers arrived, Siesennop was already out of his vehicle and walking around. He declined EMS assistance, according to Brad Kellar, WPD public information officer.

Damage is estimated between $5,000-$10,000, Kellar said.

No further information was available by press time.
