A single-car accident in northern Kosciusko County Friday night left a Cromwell man in fair condition at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Kenneth Skaggs, 36, Cromwell, suffered extensive head injuries when he was thrown from his vehicle during a crash on Wawasee Drive around 7:22 p.m. Friday.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Skaggs was driving southbound on Wawasee Drive near CR 1400N, near Cromwell, when his car left the west side of the road and hit a utility pole.

The white Mitsubishi Galant rolled several times, ejecting Skaggs. Once it came to a rest, the car caught fire and was fully engulfed when emergency response vehicles arrived at the scene.

Skaggs was taken to Parkview Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Friday night. As of this morning, his condition had been upgraded to fair.

The accident remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and the Kosciusko County Fatal/Alcohol Crash Team.
