Campaign Promises

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

During the election of 2008, then-candidate Obama was campaigning against the Patriot Act and would never vote to renew it. Candidate Obama campaigned that he would bring our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan in six months and never vote to renew it. Candidate Obama campaigned that he would bring our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan six months after taking office.

Candidate Obama campaigned that he would not raise taxes and American families making less than $250,000 will not see their taxes go up one dime.

Today in 2010, President Obama not only reauthorized the Patriot Act, he has talked in favor of expanding it. President Obama did not bring the troops home in six months, and it is unsure on whether they will come home over the next two years as promised. Last, but surely not least, President Obama signed a massive health care bill that will raise taxes for all Americans; including those families making under $250,000 who were promised tax relief. Three campaign promises made, three campaign promises broken.

President Obama and other like-minded progressives want to blame the Republican Party for all the mishaps over the last several weeks. Some people easily forget that Bush was for drilling in the Gulf during the last two years of his presidency and the Democrats lambasted him for it. Once the Democrats came into office, they approved the right to drill in the very same Gulf they were opposed to during a Republican administration. Let us also not forget how long it took for Obama to even give a response to the oil spill. Yet the Democrats bashed President Bush for his slow response time after Hurricane Katrina. There was a massive flood in parts of Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi - has anyone told President Obama, because I have yet to see his remarks on that situation.

The inherent flaw of progressivism is that they like to blame people who do not agree with their views of total government. Progressives claim that they are helping the country by increasing the power of the federal government over the lives of the American People. What the people need to realize is that progressivism will lead the United States into the abyss.

Some people are apparently upset that the Republicans are blaming President Obama for some of the most recent events to appear in the news headlines. Many progressives are lambasting people who are calling for harm on President Obama. My question is where were the Progressives when Joy Behar spoke on national television wondering why no one assassinated President Bush.

I know Woodrow Wilson and Josef Göbbels are toasting each other in whatever venture of the afterlife these two souls are residing because they would be proud of the progressive machine trying to control the minds and stifle the freedom of all Americans. For any Progressives around here who want to take a shot at answering this question - please do. If the Progressive style of big government what is best for this country, explain how well it is working in Greece and the rest of Europe for that matter?
