Camp Alexander Mack Receives $1M Grant From Lilly Endowment

MILFORD - Camp Alexander Mack, 1113 E. Camp Mack Road, Milford, announced that through Lilly Endowment Inc., Camp Alexander Mack received a $1 million grant for the purpose of rebuilding critical infrastructure.
Camp Mack is an established camp and conference center founded by the Church of the Brethren, according to a provided news release. In addition to a full residential summer camp program, the camp offers outdoor education, a variety of special programs and retreats for adults and youth throughout the year, and rental options for groups and families.
Camp Mack completed a 10-year master facility plan at the beginning of 2025 focused on safety, accessibility and inclusion. The plan calls for safer, cleaner and more private restrooms and showers; improvements to facilities to increase accessibility; and new opportunities to provide for camper engagement. However, before any work can be done on that plan, critical infrastructure must be rebuilt, the release states.
This grant will allow Camp Mack to cover all the cost of building a unified septic system, providing for the replacement of the rapidly aging current system and increasing capacity for future growth. Additionally, the grant will pay for most or all of a more stable and reliable internet connection and improvements to the overall electrical system.
Lilly Endowment Inc. has made a significant investment in residential camps throughout the state of Indiana through the Capital Project Initiative for Residential Youth Camps program, and the investment in Camp Mack will result in decades of “peace of mind” as the ministry continues to grow and impact the lives of campers and the community.
Lilly Endowment Inc. is an Indianapolis-based private foundation created in 1937 by J. K. Lilly and his sons, Eli and J.K. Jr., through gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly and Company. While those gifts remain the financial bedrock of the Endowment, the Endowment is a separate entity from the company, with a distinct governing board, staff and location. In keeping with its founders’ wishes, the Endowment supports the causes of community development, education and religion. The Endowment funds programs throughout the United States, especially in the field of religion, and maintains a special commitment to its founders’ hometown, Indianapolis, and home state, Indiana.
