Call For New Scripts From Indiana Playwrights

Posted
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Theatre Association seeks new one acts and full-length scripts from Indiana playwrights to be workshopped for the annual Indiana Theatre WORKS conference Sept. 12-14 at the University of Indianapolis.

Playwrights should send four copies of 10 contiguous pages, plus one copy of the completed script, postmarked no later than March 30. See www.intheatre.org for application and rules.

Chair Ruth T. Baker announced new programming, which will include the selection of numerous scripts for cold readings, as well as two scripts to be workshopped in their entirety. Directors and dramaturgs will be provided to guide discussions enabling playwrights to do rewrites on the spot.

Baker said, "This opens up a wider participation for actors as many will be needed for the cold readings. It will also provide future opportunities for playwrights to see how their entire scripts work and not just a 10-page slice. Everyone involved in theater learns new things during the developmental process, and we welcome participation on all levels."

IT WORKS is the only organization devoted to developing Indiana playwrights' new works. Monetary awards and stipends will be awarded, and the final presentation of the two highlighted scripts will be open to the public.
