NORTH MANCHESTER – C. Evan Kinsley, 100, of North Manchester, died at 9:15 a.m. Oct. 11, 2012, in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
He was born Aug. 27, 1912, in Hartville, Ohio, to Aaron and Lottie Carper Kinsley. On June 25, 1935, he married Lucile I. Buck, who died Dec. 29, 2010.
He was a teacher and principal for 21 years at Mt. Morris (Ill.) High School. From 1965-67 he and his wife served the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria as educational missionaries. From 1967-74 he was principal of Franklin Center High School, Franklin Grove, Ill., and from 1974-77 he was director of placement and career development at Manchester College, retiring in 1977. He served as a trustee of Manchester College from 1956-65. He was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester. He graduated from Manchester College in 1934, received a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1941 and did advanced studies at Northern Illinois University. He was a 50+ year member of the Kiwanis Club, a member of the North Manchester Shepherds Center and Wabash County Retired Teachers Association and a life member of the National Education Association.
Surviving are three sons: Dale (and spouse Cheryll) Kinsley, Lummi Island, Wash.; Kenneth (and spouse Karen) Kinsley, Monticello, Minn.; and Gerald (and spouse Cindy) Kinsley, Loves Park, Ill.; a daughter, Joyce Mann, Chico, Calif.; a brother, Gene Kinsley, Daytona Beach, Fla.; a half brother, Keith Pontius, Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be at a later date. Burial will be at a later date in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Dixon, Ill.
