NORTH MANCHESTER – C. Eugene Howard, 94, of North Manchester, died at 11:05 a.m. Aug. 26, 2012, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
He was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Howard County, to Orville E. Sr. and A. Brendice Currens Howard. On Nov. 4, 1939, he married Geraldine C. Blickenstaff, who died May 4, 2010.
He was an elementary teacher at Manchester Community Schools for 15 years, retiring in 1981. He was also a retired farmer. He was World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of North Manchester United Methodist Church. He graduated from Lagro High School in 1935. He graduated from Manchester College in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and earned a master’s degree from St. Francis University in 1971.
Surviving are two sons, Ted E. (and spouse Joselyn) Howard, Delphi, and Todd M. (and spouse Renee) Howard, Evans, Colo.; two daughters, Connie J. (and spouse John) Bowman, Leo, and Cathie J. (and spouse Claude) Markstahler, North Manchester; three brothers: Max E. Howard, Greentown; Orville E. Howard Jr., Frankfort; and Joseph L. Howard, Roann; a sister, Patricia A. (and spouse Andrew) Young, Wabash; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, North Manchester, with the Rev. Kevin DeKoninck officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
