Byron G. HunterByron G. Hunter, of Winona Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, at the age of 98.

He was born on March 18, 1924, in Miami County, the son of Ernest and Edna Haldeman Hunter. He was a graduate of Gillead High School. After high school, Byron served in the United States Navy during World War II. He then furthered his education by receiving his bachelor's degree from the Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne. Byron worked as an electronic engineer at ITT Aerospace and retired after 35 years.

On July 28, 1943, Byron married the love of his life, Winifred “Wynne” Fiwiek, in South Bend, and together, they raised their five children. The two spent just under 66 years together before her passing in April of 2009. Both Byron and Wynne loved to go dancing and spend quality time with their family and friends.

Although Byron was a very modest man, he was well respected by those who knew him both professionally and personally. He had an endless amount of patience, especially when it came to raising his children. Byron loved to tinker and fix anything. If he couldn’t fix it, then no one could. He was very active and loved to exercise. He also enjoyed playing golf and bowling.

Those who survive with his memories to cherish include his children, Janine Hunter, Joyce Burnett, Rodney (Leslie) Hunter and Pamela (Jerry) Koehlinger; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Hunter; brothers: Robert and Roger Hunter; sisters: Mona Jane Long and Ernestine Fenimore; and great-great-granddaughter, Lainey Lou Reinhard.

Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2000 Sheridan St., Warsaw, is entrusted with the care of Byron. Friends and family may gather there on Friday, Sept. 2 from 10 a.m. until noon with the Life Celebration® beginning at noon. Entombment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Fort Wayne.

To make a donation in honor of Byron, memorial gifts are appreciated to Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice.
