INDIANAPOLIS — Butler University junior pitcher Chase Byerly, who set a Butler single-season record with 10 saves this year, was recently voted a Capitol One Academic All-American. Byerly captured third-team honors and was one of just 33 players in the nation to be recognized. Byerly, a reliever from Warsaw, has served primarily as Butler's closer. In that role the past two years, the right-hander finished with a 3.57 ERA in 26 appearances. He ranked second in the Horizon League in saves and games finished (23). Byerly totaled 32 strikeouts against just five walks in 45.1 innings this season. Byerly is just the seventh Butler baseball player all-time to be named Academic All-American, and the first since Tim Marks in 2003. As a university, Butler has placed at least three kids on Academic All-American teams each year since 2008.
