Bussard’s Double-Double Powers Valley Past Whitko

SOUTH WHITLEY – Sophie Bussard had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Tippecanoe Valley girls basketball team to a 59-41 win Saturday at Whitko. 

Valley (10-4, 4-0) Three Rivers Conference) led after each break.

The Lady Vikings led by eight points after the first quarter, and nine after the second.

They continued to stretch their lead to 14 points after the third quarter and 18 after the fourth. 

Jillian?Walls hit five three-pointers for 15 points for Valley, while Kayla Schipper had a career-high 16 points for Whitko. 



Triton Edges Pioneer

BOURBON – The Triton girls basketball team won 26-24 Saturday in a Hoosier North Athletic Conference home game against Pioneer.

The Lady Trojans (4-10, 3-1 HNAC) led 12-4 after the first quarter, but scored no points in the second to trail by one point at halftime. 

Triton outscored Pioneer 14-11 in the second half for the victory. 

Lexia Hostrawser and Alyxa Viers each scored seven points for Triton. 

The Lady Trojans will host Manchester Wednesday.

Cougars Split 

Difference at Tournament

GOSHEN – The Lakeland Christian boys basketball team won one game and lost another at Saturday’s Bethany Christian Tournament.

The Cougars won 45-43 over Bethany Christian to start the day.

Landon Twombly finished with a game-high 18 points, while Jake Harmon added 15 points. 

Lakeland Christian’s loss came 67-52 to Elkhart Christian. 

Harmon had a team-high 16 points, while Twombly had 10. 

Lakeland Christian (2-7) will play Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Tri-Central.

Warsaw Swimmers 

Take 2nd At Invite

HUNTERTOWN - The Warsaw boys and girls swim teams finished second at Saturday’s Carroll Invite.

The boys team had a total score of 427. 

The Tigers had seven top-four finishes.

Warsaw’s 200-yard medley relay team of Zach LaLonde, Nick Bazzoni, Alex Cook and Grant Knight won in 1:44.09. 

Knight won the 100 breaststroke in 59.35, and was third in the 200 IM (2:06.58).

Bazzoni came in second in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.29), while Cook was second in the 100 freestyle (51.62) and third in the 50 freestyle (23.13). 

Knight, Michael Ray, Bazzoni and Cook were third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.39), while Ray, Nathan Taylor, Gabe Bowers and LaLonde were third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:45.06). 

On the girls side, Warsaw was second with 453 points. 

The Lady Tigers posted seven top-four finishes.

Gracie Willig placed third in the 200 freestyle (2:10.31), while Taylor Gunter finished fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:08.25), Olivia Herman was fourth in the 100 freestyle (59.65), and Carolina Pazos Fernandez placed fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:56.10). 

Warsaw’s Delaney Wihebrink placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:01.56), and helped the team of Gunter, Macelyn Marcuccilli, and Herman place fourth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:48.26). 

Gracie Scholl, Willig, Lillian Boston and Leah Reinholt combined to finish fourth in the 400 freestyle relay (4:11.95). 

Warsaw will host Columbia City Tuesday. 



Valley Sweeps Competition at LaVille Invite

LAPAZ – The Tippecanoe Valley wrestling team won Saturday’s LaVille Invitational. 

The Vikings won 63-15 over South Bend St. Joseph, 72-12 over Bremen, 54-30 over LaVille, 54-18 over Triton and 78-0 over Mishawaka Marian. 

Valley’s Haley Hoover (106 pounds), Drake Montelongo (113), Branson McBrier (132), Jacob Eherenman (145), Jon Humes (152), Brandon Hammer (170) and Johnny Gonsalez (195) all went 5-0. 



Wawasee Competes 

At LaPorte Pairs

LAPORTE – Wawasee had four gymnast compete Saturday at the LaPorte pairs.

Wawasee’s No. 1 pair of Alyssa Minix and Aundreya Wegener placed seventh overall with a combined score of 34.8. 

They combined for 8.65 points on vault, 8.45 points on bars, 8.65 points on beam and 8.85 points on floor. 

Talia Kuhl and Jada Parzygnot combined for 34.2 points and a ninth-place finishes.

They teamed up for eight points on vault, 8.95 points on bars, eight points on beam, and 9.25 points on floor. 

Washington Township’s Callie Feldsien and Ashley Kennedy placed first with a total of 37 points. 



Warriors Wallop Lakeland

LAGRANGE – The Wawasee freshman boys basketball team won 50-21 Saturday at Lakeland. 

Jackson Stover led the Warriors (5-1) with 11 points, while Grant Brooks added 10 points.

Wawasee will host Elkhart Memorial today at 6:30 p.m. 



Warsaw Routs 

Michigan City

The Warsaw freshman boys basketball team won 66-30 over Michigan City to capture the Tiger Tournament championship.

Judah Simfukwe led the Tigers with 13 points, while Kyle Dawson had 10 points and Sami Smith added nine points.

Warsaw is 9-1. The Tigers will face Northridge Jan. 3. 



Wawasee Finishes 

Second At Duals

SYRACUSE – The Wawasee wrestling team placed second out of six teams at its own Super Duals Saturday. 

The Warriors won 59-24 over John Glenn, 55-20 over Plymouth, and 58-16 over Angola.

They were edged 32-27 by Northridge before whooping Heritage 70-0. 

Northridge went 5-0 to win the event.
