AKRON – A new class to be offered at Tippecanoe Valley High School will let patrons buy Viking apparel at sporting events.
Monday night, the Tippecanoe Valley School Board approved Business Technology Lab 1 for the 2012-13 school year.
The course is two semesters, and students earn two credits per semester. For juniors and seniors, students must submit an application for approval into the course and must have two to five business department credits as a pre-requisite.
Kirk Doehrmann, TVHS principal, told the board the internship program is different from other internships Valley offers in that students stay at the school. They build their own business.
“It’s an opportunity for us to provide leadership opportunities and real-world experience for kids. We have some kids excited about it,” he said.
The class will operate as the school storefront, selling Viking apparel, school goods and doubles as a coffee shop.
According to information provided, “additionally, Business Technology Lab is a career and technical education business course. The business technology curriculum provides instruction using current technology with an emphasis on the integration and application of communication, employability, industry certification, math and language art skills. Instructional strategies may include workflow simulations and field experiences.”
Hal Hoffman, board member, asked Doehrmann if they will sell stuff during games. Doehrmann said they would.
“We get a number of calls about that,” he said.
The storefront will be housed in the media center.
