Burn Ban Lifted Hours Before Expiration

Posted
Due to recent rainfall, the burn ban for Kosciusko County has finally been lifted.

The Kosciusko County Commissioners voted this morning to end the ban rather than letting it expire at noon today.

Ed Rock, Emergency Management director, asked that people continue to use good judgement and caution when it comes to burning in the county.

The commissioners also were informed by Kosciusko Area Bus Service General Manager Matt Boren that he gave his notice to Cardinal Services and his last day will be Aug. 17.

Boren will stay in the community, working for CBRE.

Cardinal Services is still looking to fill the position.

Boren also said that $37,977 may be cut from KABS budget in 2013, but that it may be recouped in 2014.

Boren said they are looking at ways to make up that amount.

Laurie Renier, county assessor, told the commissioners that reassessment notices were sent out today.

Margaret Cousins was approved for another four-year term on the Milford Public Library.

The commissioners agreed with the Kosciusko County Historical Society on a 30-year lease of the old jail.

Kosciusko County Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden told the commissioners that he expects the bridge on Winona Beach Road to be opened in the next two weeks.

He also said he expects Fox Farm Road to be opened soon.

Bids were opened for a new backhoe. Three bids were submitted and one will be awarded at the commissioner’s next meeting, Aug. 14.

The commissioners approved two vacations.

The first was a continued request from June.

After an Area Plan Commission meeting where no vote was reached and with nobody against the vacation in the audience today, the commissioners voted to vacate a unnamed public way between lots 6, 7 and 12 in Mort's Addition south of EMS B64 Lane, Warsaw.

Three unnamed public ways in Lake View Park, Syracuse, were also vacated by the commissioners.
