Burket Incident Brings Conflicting Statements From Witnesses

Posted
BURKET - A police report has conflicting information concerning an incident that took place in Burket Saturday evening.

In a recorded interview, Suzanne Bibler stated she was getting into Glenn Burkett's vehicle, and at one point Burkett began hitting her in the head.

She was thrown from the truck and ran over, police reports indicate.

Bibler and her husband, Brad, stated that Burkett returned and began hitting them with his fists.

Pictures were taken of their injuries.

One witness stated that it appeared Burkett was "out to run over anyone in his way" and that Burkett never grabbed Suzanne Bibler's throat.

Another witness told police he saw Burkett's son, Allen Burkett, with an ax and a long pipe prior to confronting the group.

Police are unaware if the pipe was used in the confrontation.

As of this morning, the report has not been filed at the Prosecutor's Office for further review and for charges to be filed.

The incident resulted from a dispatch call of a black truck running people over in Burket.

Though seven witness statements were taken by police in a July 21 report, along with statements by the Biblers and Glenn Burkett, the full transcript of those statements were not on the police report.

Both Biblers and Cora Warner, a 14-year-old, were injured in the incident and flown to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
