Burket Council Gets Update On Town Projects

Posted

BURKET – Burket Town Council heard about the progress of several projects Thursday.
Street Superintendent Brad Bibler said he was informed the speed limit signs for the town are in, so he will put them up on Center Street. Council President Bill Rayburn confirmed Bibler will put a 30-mile-per-hour sign outside of the school zone by Burket Educational Center and a 25-mph sign on the other side of the road from the school.
Bibler also addressed a pothole on Center Street that was brought up during September’s meeting. He said he will fill it.
Rayburn asked if Bibler had heard anything from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office about moving a digital speed limit sign from CR 700 to Center Street. A couple months ago, Bibler said he contacted KCSO to have a digital speed limit sign to see if it helps with slowing people driving down that street. He requested the sign be put on Center Street, but it was put on CR 700 instead.
Thursday, Bibler said he had not heard anything about the sign being moved.
The town’s snow plow will need to have maintenance done on it and it may be a couple weeks for the work to be done, Bibler said.
In other business, the council:
• Set trick-or-treat hours for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31.
• Heard the 2026 budget will be adopted at 6 p.m. Monday.
• Heard Bibler talked to a representative from Phend & Brown, who will take a look at some cracks in some streets around town. Rayburn said he hopes Phend & Brown will voluntarily do some work to correct the cracks.
• Heard Rayburn has been working with a property owner about unplated cars on their property.
The property has previously been fined for having the cars on the property.
Rayburn said the property owner has cleared out a couple of the vehicles, but has several left. Rayburn said he was told the property owner would take care of the issue by the weekend. If not, Rayburn said the property owner will be fined again.
