Bracket fever continues in Kosciusko County with the launch of a Burger Wars bracket, which will zero in on the best place to get a local burger based on customer votes. Participating restaurants will be voted for round by round to find the best burger in the county, according to the announcement from the Kosciusko County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Voting begins May 16 at www.livewellinthemoment.com The first round lasts 10 days and the next two rounds will last a week. Winners will be announced June 9. Most participating burger-makers are independent restaurants, though Mary Kittrell, executive director of the KCCVB, said franchises are allowed if they are not represented in any of the other six counties holding their own Burger Wars. Participating restaurants in Kosciusko County include the North Webster American Legion, B-Mac’s on Buffalo, Lucky’s Tavern, the Boathouse, Schoop’s, Maria’s House of Pancakes in North Webster and the Silver Tongue food truck, Kittrell said. Another dozen or so restaurants may also participate. Customers can log in to vote each week to make sure their favorite restaurant gets the credit they think it deserves. Voters can keep checking the website and Kosciusko County social media pages for a chance to win prizes through mini contests held throughout the voting process. Customers can also sign in and vote each round for a chance to win a grand-prize $100 gift certificate to the winning restaurant. Kosciusko County Burger Wars is running simultaneously with six other county Burger Wars as part of the Northern Indiana Burger Wars project. The project is a joint initiative of the Northern Indiana Tourism Development Commission and its member convention and visitors bureaus in Porter, LaPorte, St. Joseph, Marshall, Kosciusko, Elkhart and LaGrange counties. The winner in each county will go on to compete for the Northern Indiana Burger War title, which should be decided by the end of June, Kittrell said.
