NAPPANEE - A Nappanee man is in critical condition after the buggy he was driving was struck from behind by a car.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was called to the scene of the accident on Ind. 19, 350 feet north of CR 900N, near Nappanee, at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.
An accident report indicated that the driver of the car, Ernest A. Moon, 52, of Bradner, Ohio, was northbound on Ind. 19 when he attempted to pass a horse and buggy driven by Edwin O. Miller, 46, North CR 900W, Nappanee.
Moon said he couldn't pass the horse and buggy due to oncoming traffic and he returned to his lane of travel. When he did so, though, Moon told police, he rear-ended the buggy, causing it to overturn.
Miller suffered head injuries in the accident and was admitted to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition in the Critical Care West Unit this morning.
