Budget Presentations Given To CommissionersNot-for-profits gave their budget requests to the County Commissioners Tuesday morning.

Most organizations like the Cardinal Center asked for the same amount as last year.

The Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation asked for $150,000, the same as last year.

Kim Nance from KEDC spoke to the commissioners and said it hopes to hire an executive director within the next 60 days.

Representatives from Home Health Care and the Council On The Aging requested the same amount as last year but both said the state has informed them they will receive a 15 percent cut in state and federal funding next year.

Nate Bosch, director of Kosciusko Lakes and Streams and Lyn Crighton, executive director of Tippecanoe Watershed Foundation were on hand to let the commissioners know about the Northern Indiana Lakes Festival.

The festival starts June 26 to coincide with Lakes Appreciation Week which is June 26-July 5.

The second annual Northern Indiana Lakes Festival will take place June 26 at Center Lake in Warsaw from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This event is free and includes a ski show by Lake City Skiers, exhibits and booths by water-related businesses and non-profit organizations, canoe tours around Center Lake, interactive song and dance performances for children, a water splash and play area, food, fishing, door prizes and more.

County Administrator Ron Robinson told the commissioners that a compressor on top of the justice building needed to be repaired. The cost is $32,056.

Robinson also said there is an opening on the Warsaw library board.

Those interested must be residents of Warsaw or Wayne Township.

Those interested should call Robinson at 574-372-2475.

The topic of Nature's Fuel was brought to the commissioners.

Carol Sparrow, a resident of Atwood, appeared before the commissioners.

Commissioner Ron Truex said that progress has been made with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

Truex said he meets or talks with IDEM on a daily basis.

Phil Byrer, another Atwood resident whose home is located directly behind Nature's Fuel, also spoke to the commissioners.

Byrer brought up Nature's Fuel's request for a new permit with IDEM.

Byrer listed what Nature's Fuel would want to test under the new permit which included fabrics, textiles, animal waste and grease.

Byrer asked the commissioners to ask IDEM for another 30 days to review the new permit request.

A 30-day comment period is currently underway.

Truex said he would ask IDEM but he was fairly certain IDEM would reject that request as to not set a precedent for future permit requests.

County Highway Superintendent Dennis Pletcher said he received bids for a bridge on Country Club Road to be repaired.

The bid from Princo was $28,000 lower than the next bid and came out to be $371,000 which is $10,000 higher than the engineer's estimate.

Pletcher told the board that E & B Paving will begin work on both east and west sides of Old 30 once the weather cooperates.

The county also will begin chip sealing areas next week.

Finally, Truex announced that an application was presented to the Lakeland Regional Sewer District to change the boundaries to create a countywide sewer district.

The commissioners passed an ordinance to lay out how the countywide sewer district would be managed.

Truex said it would be managed just like the LRSD.

Resident Jim Newcombe asked Truex whether a public hearing would have to be held.

Truex said that all the bases have been covered in setting up the sewer district.
