Buckle Up

As more Hoosiers take to the roadways each year, traffic safety continues to be a top public safety priority. That is why I, like many Hoosiers, am grateful to have the support of state and local law enforcement officers who make it a daily priority to keep our roadways safe.

Thanks to the unwavering dedication of Indiana's partners in traffic safety, the month of May is now synonymous with "Click It or Ticket." The notoriety of this national campaign can be attributed to the state, local and federal forces that drive public awareness.

This year, the statewide "Click It or Ticket" enforcement mobilization will go into effect Friday, and will conclude on June 3. This year's crackdown will be unique in its emphasis on nighttime enforcement effort during the night of May 24.

I strongly urge all law enforcement agencies that are not conducting these enforcement mobilizations to join forces with the 269 agencies that have already committed to this critical endeavor. I am confident that 2007 will reflect even more promising and favorable outcomes if we all contribute to making Indiana's roads safer to travel.

To that end, I extend my deepest appreciation to every law enforcement officer who continually works to improve safety on our roadways. I am humbled by your passion for traffic safety and by your commitment to saving lives.
