Brumfield Named Principal At WCHS

When school starts next fall, Warsaw high school students will have a new principal.

Jennifer S. Brumfield, Ph.D., was appointed Monday by the Warsaw school board as Warsaw Community High School principal, effective July 1. She will replace current principal Paul Crousore, who is retiring.

Brumfield, 52, said one of her goals is to "work toward building a community of learners" by encouraging staff development with staff involvement. She also said she would like to get more community members involved in the school and has devised a handbook for mentors, volunteers and tutors.

"We really need to encourage more adult participation in our schools on a regular basis," she said.

Brumfield, who has been assistant principal for 12 years, said she won't be the only one starting a new position - with her promotion and already an unfilled office, there also will be two assistant principal positions to be filled.

While she will be taking on more administrative duties, Brumfield said she hopes to be more hands-on with students.

"I want to be more interactive with students because students need to be more active in our decisions," she said.

Brumfield is a WCHS graduate, with an undergraduate degree from Manchester College and master's and doctorate degrees from Indiana University. She also has been a science teacher at Mentone Elementary School and a freshman biology teacher at WCHS. She was named the Indiana Assistant Principal of the Year in 1996.
