Brueggeman Named New Soccer Coach

NORTH MANCHESTER – Manchester University Director of Athletics Rick Espeset announced Friday that Corey Brueggeman has been elevated to head men’s soccer coach.
Brueggeman had served as the top assistant to former head coach Dave Good for three years. Prior to becoming an assistant coach, he worked with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer in their marketing and promotions department after graduating with a degree in sport management from Manchester in May 2012. Brueggeman also has coaching experience with the Fort Wayne Sport Club.
He’s earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Advanced National Diploma, National Diploma, and Goalkeeper Level 1 coaching certificates and recently completed a Master’s of Science in Recreation and Sport Management from Indiana State in December, 2015. A two-time all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honoree and three-year captain on the pitch for the Spartans, Brueggeman was among the top five in scoring as a junior and senior at midfielder.
“My wife, Brittney, and I are very excited to begin this new adventure,” he said. “This is something we’ve thought about since we came back to North Manchester. I cannot thank Dave enough for what he’s done for me personally and professionally through the past eight years. I can truly say I would not be where I am today without his guidance and mentorship.
"I'm very grateful and humbled to have this opportunity, and I want to thank Rick and the Manchester University administration. I’m eager to get started and begin a new chapter within the MU soccer tradition. We have a strong group of returning players, and I cannot wait for the incoming class to join them in August."
“I feel fortunate that we did not have to look very far to find an outstanding person and coach (to replace Dave),” Espeset said. “Corey’s coaching and recruiting experience over the last three years at MU, the success on the club level in Fort Wayne to go along with his certifications, and his experience abroad with soccer and a fresh Master of Science degree made him the ideal candidate.
“I’m confident that Corey understands the mission of Manchester and will always have the best interest of student-athletes on the top of his mind along with representing the institution in a first-class manner.”
