The Triton High School Athletic Department has announced Ron Brown as the new varsity football coach of the Trojans. Brown is taking over for John Johns, who led the Trojans to a 4-17 record over the past two seasons. Johns is departing the Trojans to take a teaching position at Benton Central High School. This change for Johns will allow him to be closer to his family. “Coach Johns did a great job for us over the past two years,” said Triton Athletic Director Mason McIntyre. “We would like to thank him for his years of service and wish John and his family nothing but the best going forward.” Brown will take over as head coach of the Trojans after five years as an assistant under former head coaches Rodney Younis and Johns. Prior to coming to Triton, Brown was an assistant coach for three years at Centerville High School. During Brown's three years under coach Matt Holeva at Centerville, the team was 24-6. Brown also serves as a co-coach for the Triton wrestling program with Matt Arvesen. “We are excited about Coach Brown and what he will bring to our football program as the head coach,” McIntyre said. “Coach Brown has shown he has the leadership skills to run a successful program. He and Coach Arvesen have done an outstanding job with our wrestling program and I anticipate the same results with our football program.” Several other Triton coaches will fill out Brown's staff. Serving under Brown will be Arvesen (current Triton science teacher and co-wrestling coach), Younis (current Triton physical education and health teacher and former varsity football coach), Jason Groves (current Triton English teacher and varsity boys basketball coach), Jeremy May (current football assistant, elem. girls basketball coach, and junior high girls track coach), Jason Thompson (current junior high wrestling coach), and Shaun Belin (current wrestling volunteer coach). The coaching staff will begin working with the team immediately. The Trojans will begin play against the Caston Comets in the newly formed Hoosier North Athletic Conference on Aug. 21.
