Brooks Wins Regional Title, Others Move On

Posted
ROCHESTER — Warsaw senior wrestler Jarred Brooks claimed his fourth Rochester regional championship Saturday afternoon, posting three pins on his way to the title.

In six postseason matches this year, Brooks has six pins, with his longest match taking 2:48 on Jan. 28 at the Plymouth Sectional.

At Saturday’s Rochester Regional, Brooks pinned Mishawaka’s Jake Chadwick in 2:13, South Bend Riley’s Antwan Wordlaw in 1:34, then won the title with a 1:03 pin of Wawasee’s Greg Newman, the same person he pinned to win the Plymouth Sectional title.

Brooks now moves on to the Merrillville semistate, where he will be joined by one teammate, as well as three Wawasee Warriors and a Tippecanoe Valley Viking.

With the top four finishers qualifying for the semistate, Warsaw’s Kyle Duzan finished fourth at 170, Wawasee’s Newman will be joined by teammates Dimitri Kaplanis (HWT, 3rd) and Ryan Lindsey (152, 4th), while Valley’s Devin Childers finished third at 120 pounds.

Finishing fifth, therefore serving as alternates at the semistate were Warsaw’s Luis Cervantes (120) and Miguel Delfin (220), Valley’s Arron Heller (138), Trent Bauters (160), Keaton Bell (170) and Jarron Kidd (195), as well as Triton’s Dakota Grubbs (152).

Saturday in Fort Wayne
Whitko’s Cody Bays advanced to this Saturday’s Fort Wayne Snider Semistate, which will be held at Memorial Colesium in Fort Wayne. Bays earned a berth in the semistate by finishing third in the 145-pound class at Saturday’s Carroll Regional. Whitko’s Tom Werstler (113), Colton LeTourneau (126), Chas Busz (132) and Austin LeTourneau (138) also competed at the regional, but failed to finish in the top four, which would have moved them onto the semistate.

Saturday in Peru
The Manchester wrestling team advanced three individuals to this Saturday’s Fort Wayne Snider Semistate, which will be held at Fort Wayne’s Memorial Colesium. Manchester’s Clayton Moore (113) and Aaron Snep (220) each finished second at the regional, while Neil Snep was third at 182 pounds. The Squires’ Justin Dill (126) and Payton Sorg (145) each finished fifth at the regional, meaning they’ll be semistate alternates, as the top four in each weight class advance to the next level.
