Boys Hoop Sectional Continues Tonight

Posted

Four local boys teams will compete in sectional semifinal action tonight for the right to advance to the sectional championship game on Saturday.

At 7:30 p.m. Warsaw (14-7) will meet Elkhart Central (11-9) at North Side Gym in Elkhart.

These two teams faced off in the final game of the regular season a week ago, and the Tigers won in double overtime.

Since that time, however, the Blue Blazers have been resting up while Warsaw had to face another double overtime game against Concord in the sectional opener.

In that game, the Tigers' Luke Reed went down to an ankle injury that seems to have ended his high-school career.

Also at 7:30 p.m. Whitko (5-16) and Peru (13-8) will face off at Peru. Whitko upset Valley in the sectional opener, and Peru upset Carroll (Allen) by one point to get to this matchup.

The Wildcats shot 59 percent against the Vikings, but still struggled at the free-throw line, making fewer than half of their shots. If this game is close down the stretch, that could be a key factor as Whitko is shooting just 55 percent from the charity stripe on the season.

At 8 p.m. Triton (9-12), who upset South Central (LaPorte), will play Michigan City Marquette (11-10) in Bourbon. The Blazers defeated Argos in their sectional opener.

Argos beat the Trojans twice in the regular season, but Triton is now on a five-game winning streak with wins over a 3A school and two 2A squads.

At 6 p.m. NorthWood (15-5) will open its sectional action by hosting Angola (12-8). The Hornets have been a dangerous team at times and could pose some problems for the Panthers. However, this sectional is set up for NorthWood/Northridge part three on Saturday for the sectional championship. The two teams split their regular season series and could lock horns in the rubber match if both teams win tonight.

All winners will compete in the sectional championships at the host school on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The Triton Sectional Championship is set to tip-off at 8 p.m.

If NorthWood wins tonight and the NorthWood girls win in semistate action Saturday morning, then the NorthWood boys sectional championship game will be moved to 4 p.m. as the girls would play at 8 p.m.
