NORTH WEBSTER - An 8-year-old boy was severely bitten by a dog Wednesday at a home in North Webster.
Gregory Heck, Columbia City, was visiting his grandmother, Sandy Heck, at her home in North Webster. Sandy told police Gregory went to a neighbor's house to visit the dog, an Akita mix.
Gregory told police that he knocked on the door. When the door was opened, the dog ran out of the house and bit him.
Gregory's parents took him to Whitley County Hospital, where he was treated for the bites to his face and ear. He was later transferred to St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne to be treated by a specialist.
The dog, owned by the Kern family, will be confined for 10 days. The owners then must decide what to do with the dog.
